Dear Lucille,
It occurs to me that we only have the present. Yesterday was made up of present moments. Tomorrow is a word that simply describes an infinite number of presents. When we toil over the past, we are not only wasting our time, but we are ineptly recreating what cannot be recreated. And while we should hope for good things to come--it is a hope that should be founded on making the most of the present, in each moment that comes (for when it comes, this will be our reality--our present). This can be challenging with the world's fundamental understanding of time. Still, truly valuing and magnifying the good that we experience in the present--while sloughing off the bitter and unnecessary weight we too often carry with us--will allow us to focus more on being here. Now. Appreciating what we have in this moment and not getting caught up in "I'll finally be happy when..."
We can be choose to be happy now. Choose to be kind now. Choose to respect ourselves and others now. Choose to make the very most out of this day. Choose to embrace the generosity in creation all around us. Breathe it in and soak it up. Now.
And remember, I love you,
Daddy
